Voluntary health insurance in Kyrgyzstan is still bought mainly by employers, but in 2026 the number of family policies doubled. The reason is queues at state clinics and rising prices at private clinics in Bishkek: a GP visit costs 1,500–2,500 som, an ultrasound from 1,800, an MRI from 6,000. Here is what insurers offer families.

Programmes and prices

The average cost of private health cover for a family of three (two adults under 45 and a child) as of September 2026:

  • SK Zdorovie, Basic: 42,000 som a year — outpatient care at 12 clinics, tests, home doctor visits.
  • Jubilee, Family: 58,000 som — plus inpatient care up to 300,000 som, dentistry up to 20,000 som.
  • Bakai Insurance, Optimum: 65,000 som — premium clinics, diagnostics without referral, pregnancy management.
  • Kyrgyzinstrakh, Standard: 47,000 som — a strong regional network including Osh and Karakol.

Children under 14 are usually insured with a 20–30% surcharge, and pensioners over 65 are not covered by every programme.

What is not covered

Chronic conditions diagnosed before purchase usually fall under a 3–6 month waiting period. Not covered: cosmetology, elective aesthetic surgery, treatment abroad (a separate international programme is needed) and medicines outside hospital. Read the exclusions list — it is longer than the inclusions.

When private cover pays off

A family with a preschool child sees doctors 15–20 times a year on average: paediatrician, ENT, tests, dentist. At private clinic prices that is 40,000–60,000 som, comparable to a policy, but a policy adds inpatient care and removes the "go or wait" dilemma. If you see a doctor 2–3 times a year, a health savings account is the better deal.
