Expert opinion

With a stable som, a som deposit at 16–17% remains the most profitable risk-free instrument in the country: even after 5.8% inflation the real return is about 10%. Split the amount between two or three banks so each part is covered by the DPA, and choose capitalisation if you don't plan to withdraw the interest.
Term deposits (money is placed for a fixed period at the maximum rate), savings accounts (top-up and withdraw any time at a lower rate), children's deposits (opened in the name of a child under 18) and foreign-currency deposits in USD, EUR and RUB. The Islamic bank offers mudaraba with an expected return instead.
We update the rating weekly using data from 1 NBKR-licensed banks. Ranking is by income over the term under equal conditions: KGS 500,000 for 12 months with no early withdrawal.
In September 2026 the leaders are fixed-rate deposits at 17% p.a. — KICB Online Deposit, ESB Savings Term and Capital Maximum. Among savings accounts, FINCA (12%) and ESB (11.5%) offer the best terms.
Som deposit rates stay at 10–17% p.a. with the NBKR policy rate at 9% and inflation at 5.8%. The longer the term and the fewer options (no top-ups or withdrawals), the higher the rate.
Foreign-currency deposits pay 3–5% in dollars, 1–2.5% in euros and 6–9% in rubles. Interest on individuals' deposits in Kyrgyzstan is exempt from income tax.
Citizens of Kyrgyzstan need only a passport (ID card). Foreigners need a passport and proof of legal stay. A children's deposit requires the child's birth certificate.
When opening online, identification is via Tunduk ID or a video call with a bank employee. No income proof is required.
All 1 banks in the rating hold a National Bank licence and take part in the deposit protection system. The Deposit Protection Agency (DPA) guarantees repayment of up to KGS 200,000 per depositor per bank, including interest.
To protect more than KGS 200,000, split it between several banks — the guarantee applies to each separately.
